General and Specific Information on DSTC

WHAT IS DSTC:

Sequel of ATLS, education on trauma patient's management for the first critical 24 hours in the hospital.

- DSTC was founded by Champion, Fingerhut, Deane, Lennguist, Mulder, Trunkey, during the ACS Congress in 1996. https://www.iatsic.org/DSTC/
- It is offered internationally, in 42 countries (about 5.000 participants), from the IATSIC (International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care).
- In Greece, it takes place since 2004 (first time in Larissa, by Prof. Chatzitheofilou), organised from the Hellenic Trauma and Emergency Surgery Society. Untill now 23 courses have taken place more than 400 participants.

WHAT IS DATC:

Definitive Anesthesia Trauma Care: A specialized training program designed for anesthetists, emergency physicians and  intensivists focusing on the management of severely injured patients. It aims to enhance decision-making and practical skills in difficult trauma scenarios, especially in situations requiring complex resuscitation efforts. 

- DATC was founded by C. Bleeker in 2014. https://www.iatsic.org/DATC/
- It is offered in 30 countries and is certified by IATSIC. The DATC course typically runs in conjunction with the DSTC course, fostering a multidisciplinary approach by involving emergency physiccian, surgeons, anesthetists, and emergency ancd perioperative nurses.
- In Greece, it takes place since 2017 in cooperation with the Hellenic Trauma Society. Untill now, 7 courses have taken place with more than 40 participants.


TO WHOM IS "DSATC" ADDRESSED TO:

The knowledge offered, is useful to all those who participate in the management of trauma patient in a hospital, SPECIALISTS and "MATURE" RESIDENTS (able to perform the basic skills of their specialty):

SCHEDULE

Duration: 3 days
  • 15 lectures
  • 6 case report sessions (the case that you find difficult)
  • 1 session for strategic thinking development
  • 2 x 4 hours, hands-on operations, with 3 trainees per table, under the supervision and guidance of prominent international and local instructors
In order to introduce even the young residents to the main rationale of DSTC (and make the cost affordable) we provide the opportunity to attend only the theoretical part (no hands-on surgery). The cost will be reduced and the certificate will be the appropriate. The whole Course can be attended later, when the participant will be more experienced, just paying the rest of the money and receiving the full Certificate. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year residents can attend only the theoretical part of DSTC.
